The Memory Keeper's Daughter - Kim Edwards
The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards
rating: 3 of 5 stars
Enjoyed this more than I expected, though it's not really the kind of book I'd normally get through. One of my last 'picked it up at the AABB book swap' books, but one of the better ones.
Fairly generic chicklit topic - 2 babies are born, one with Down syndrome, and the father chooses to send her to an institution. Other choices follow, though nothing particularly shocking. Mostly the book is about the consequences of family secrets, and the complete implosion of a family. Without knowing much about Downs syndrom, I'm not sure how accurate a depiction this is - either of the child, or the situations depicted.
I actually found the "normal" family to be fairly frustrating and unreasonable, but I guess most families are. I found Rosemary, a character introduced later in the book, to be particularly interesting but rather wasted.
